Hi everybody, today I want to talk about evolution of e-paper technology: something that, with a low environmental impact, allows the creation of amazing hardware applications.
First of all technical aspects, then “the future”. E-paper technologi is a display technology that tries to mimic the appearence of the ink on a classic sheet of paper based on an electrophoretic display i.e. an information display that forms visible images by rearranging charged pigment particles using an applied electric field. In few words little pigmented spheres electrically charged moved with a controlled electric field. Depending on the position of this shperes (near or far from the surface of the display) the light is reflected or not given exactly the same effect of the black ink on the white paper (white reflect all sun rays, black the opposite). With the evolution of this technology we are now able to display not only black and white but even colours. Here a scheme to a better understanding:
- Education: digital schoolbooks
- E-books
- Newspapers
- Low cost cell-phone displays (Motorola F3 for example)
